Can you help?
Museum staff have asked the friends to help with two new projects:
Science Maze Engines
We are looking to create a small team of individuals to demonstrate the working steam and gas engines (electrically driven) one day a week and explain to visitors how steam and gas engines operate and their use. Training to operate the engines will be provided.
Science and Industry Library
We are looking for a person(s) with IT skills to complete the electronic indexing of the Parsons Heaton Works Journals and the North Eastern Electricity Board Nor Easter magazine. The indexing will help the curatorial team at the museum to make better use of the journal and magazine in their research work.
If you are interested in either of the volunteering opportunities please contact Graham Bradshaw firstname.lastname@example.org
A group of the Friends and Discovery Museum Manager, Carolyn Ball recently made a visit to the new British Aerospace Engineering Systems (BAE) factory at Washington. This state of the art engineering plant has replaced the former BAE factory at Birtley. In a fascinating visit the Friends learnt how people and robots work together in 21st century engineering.
On July 8th, the Friends helped to enthuse the next generation of engineers, designers and technologist at the 2014 Northumberland 'Young Engineer, Designer, Technologist competition'. The competition is jointly organised by the Rotary Club of Hexham, Northumbria University and the Friend of Discovery Museum. The competition is open to GCSE and A-level students from schools across Northumberland. FODMs provided judges and the students prize and trophy.
The Friends are looking for a suitably skilled person to take on the role of Minutes Secretary at the monthly Management Committee meetings. If you are interested in taking up this role please contact Ian Burdon - email: email@example.com
