Newcastle Gang Show - Oldest Remaining in World - This Week
|Posted on Mar 28 2016|
The Brilliant Newcastle Gang Show (now the oldest remaining Gang Show in the world) which started in 1937 is performing at the People's Theatre this week. Newcastle Gang Show is a family variety show featuring Scouts and Guides from across the City of Newcastle, and members further afield from Northumberland Scout County.
The 80 plus cast is made up of young people who are members of the Scouting and Guiding who perform a wide mix of song, dance and comedy sketches for the local community. Our modern Gang Shows include a wide range of music, from entry's in the charts today to Ralph Reader traditionals.
There are 6 performances - Tuesday 29th March to Saturday 2nd April at 7pm and 1 matinee performance at 2pm on Saturday 2nd. Why not join them for a great evening out and support this great institution! Bring the Kids!
Tickets are available from the People's Theatre Box Office in advance or on the night.
Many of the young people who take part in the show step onto the stage for the very first time, with the annual show giving them the chance to experience the performing arts in a fun and friendly way. Behind the curtain an army of dedicated volunteers make sure the show can happen with adults giving their time in a range of roles such as production, production, set build, costumes, makeup, lighting, sound and more.
The primary aim of the event is to allow young people to develop stage and performance skills, confidence and self-esteem. The show is not intended to make a profit, which may sound strange in today’s financial climate, but volunteers give time for free simply to see the youngsters grow, develop and take part in something they have never done before. The show not only stars young people, but it’s also put together by them with young producers and choreographers taking the lead and bringing in fresh ideas.
