The Newcastle Bolshevik at St George's, Jesmond

TWHF's latest members are the Friends of St George’s Church, Jesmond. This church is Grade I Listed architectural masterpiece desiged by T. R. Spence under the patronage and at the expense of Charles Mitchell, shipbuilder. Built in 1888 it is a unique fusion of Arts and Crafts with Art Nouveau, containing stunning mosaics.
The Objectives of the Friends are to assist in the care and preservation of the historic buildings and grounds of St George’s Church, Jesmond and the promotion of facilities and events in those buildings, with a view to enhancing the lives of those who participate.
This Saturday, April 9th at 2:30 in the church hall FOSGJ are holding a fascinating talk given by Professor David Saunders (Russian History at Newcastle University) on ‘The Newcastle Bolshevik: Matvei Fisher (1871 - 1935)'. David has previously talked on Russian related subjects relevant to Newcastle and in particular Jesmond.
